The poem “Station” is about a guy who leaves his home at his fathers house to go and live at his mothers. The father has different feelings it. The author describes those in “dark” and “white” expressions. On the one hand he is happy about, that his son is growing up and now starts a different life. On the other one he is sad about, that his son is leaving him. He says they both know “it won’t ever be the same again”. And that will be right. Their relationship will change. The author describes the life of the guy till now as a “dark” one. That means not so good. He says “between this station of shade and the shining waters”. The shining waters he means the new things which are coming, at his son’s mums house. All in all he is happy about his son’s life. But he don’t really want him to leave. This is what the dark/white describe. His mixed feelings about everything.

The poem “The Forsaken” written by Duncan Campbell Scott is about the life of a woman.

In the middle of the winter, she is having a baby and is trying to survive by fishing food out of the lake close to her house. But without her surviving, the baby cannot live either. Because she is so poor, she has to create her own things to go fishing for survival.
Many years later, her family and her are making a trip to a lonely island, and to her it seems like the early years, when her son was little. Then her family decides to leave her behind, “because she was old and useless”. She prepares herself for death.
A bit later she is dying all alone, but in peace.

The story “The Prospector’s Trail” written by Cathy Jewison, is about a man names Norman. He and his wife Jennifer try a new life near a little town, Yellowknife. But this what Norman wants is totally not that what Jennifer desires. Norman wants everything for his wife, but in their present situation he just cannot do so. This shows a conflict man versus man.

Norman wants to have a new job and wants to get out of the big city. So they are moving northwards, near Yellowknife. but there they just life in a tent. Thats not that what Norman imagined, and Jeniffer neither. But she is just complaining about everything. Norman just wants to have good nights, having a job and trying to have a good life. But Jennifer is not seeing this. She is almost before breaking up. In this time Norman finds what he wants to do. he will renew garbage so that he can resell it.

When he began his job he found a red flanell shirt. Jennifer warned him if he is ever wearing stuff like this she’ll go. Norman put this shirt on and went home. He told Jennifer what he is doing for a job from now on. He know that he will provoke her with this. But he realized after time that even Jennifer is not making his life to this what it should be. So he provoke, that she will go. And she went.

This is a kind of man vs. man conflict. Jennifer against her man Norman or other side around. It was really difficult for both and it seemed like if they both had first kind of the same imagination when they moved. But the imagination of a later life from Norman changed with a bit of time. So that his one and Jennifers one didn’t ft together anymore. This is why they got in trouble, and why the short story ends like it ends.

The story “The Chocolate War” written by Robert Comiert, is about a guy who goes to a private school. He is really independent and wants to keep it. But on this private school it is really hard.

The school is a private school, somewhere in Canada. This school is just for boys, no girls are attending this school. The school administration is special. It works together with a special, secret organisation which name is “The Vigils”, just found by pupils. The pupils belonging to this oranisation are not the nicest on this school. They are trying to force the pupils to do special assignements. With the assignements the Vigils are giving to the students, the schooladministration tries to keep the young men under control.

In this case they gave to all the students the assignement to sell 50 packages of chocolate during 10 days. Just one person, jerry Rebnault is not doing this assigenment. Because of this assignement all the students have something to do.If they are not doing this, like Renault, theteacher try to scare this people. Also with the help of the Vigils.

All in all it was hard to “come” into the story, to try to understand it. First it seems like if there were 3 different stories told, which connection is just that they are t5aking place in the same building. But later i start to understand it all a bit more and who is connected with who, and why they are connected.

It is a really interesting story, because this is it like, how you imagine those private schools sometimes. Really cruel intentions, things behind others backs, just for being the bests.

In his poem “If you forget me” from Pablo Neruda, he is using many metaphors for describing his feelings.

He is talking about his girlfiend like “those isles (what) are waiting for me”. He hopes that his girlfriend waits for him. That she will still love him, forever.

His feelings are described as “little boats” which are floating to the isles.

He himself is described as a tree. In the heart are his roots, or the roots are leading to his heart. All the love will go there and he is living from it and because of it. With out this love he wouldn’t be himself.

The last metaphor is that he is describing other girls, potential girlfriends, as another land. He will seek there if his present girlfriend will forget him.

The book “Lord of the Flies”, written by William Golding is filmed. But the movie is not really the same like the book. Some things are upside down.

First you can notice that the place where the plane crashed is different. In the book the plane crashed on the island, in the movie it lands in the sea. This has an affect of the whole beginning of the story.

So it happens that all the boys are together from the beginning on. They crash in the sea and try to rescue each other. They help each other at the beginning. Then somebody dips and got a rescue boat from the crashed plane on the ground of the sea. Everybody gets in and they strand on the island, all together. But in the book everything is different. It begins with Ralph and Piggy who meet each other in the forest of the island. Because the plane crashed on the island. They walk together, get to the beach and find the conch. With the help of this very useful thing, they make a sound, which everybody on the island could hear. So all boys get together cause of this sound. An not like in the movie, that they are all together from the beginning on.

Another difference is that in the movie are some adults. They children tried to rescue them, so they are also on the island. There are three of them. One is pretty well…he can walk a little bit. But the others seem as they are dead. So no real help for the children. But the other one neither is a help for the guys. When he gets fever, he walks away from them and hides in a cave. The guys think he is dead. Then one day one guy comes to this cave, where the adult is. But everything is dark. And when the guy noticed the adult he kills him, cause he thought it is the beast. So there are no more adults for help.

In the book there are no adults. Especially no adults who are so healthy that they can move. And they are not compared with the beast. They guys don’t have to worry about somebody else then themselves. But because of the adults in the movie, it is a bit more exciting.

So all in all only the beginning is very different between the book and the movie. How the boys find together and live the first time. Later in the movie it is nearly the same. So not so big difference like in the beginning. But because of the other beginning, the movie seems more exciting. I think this is why they have changed this all.

In the second third of “Lord of the Flies”, written by William Golding, many things happen.

The guys go on discussing who or what the beast can be and where it comes from. They start an exhibition and look for it on the whole island. They see something scary on the top of the mountain, so they leave it and won’t go there another time.

After this they have an assembly, called by Jack. Jack complains about hoe they all work together and how everything is.

Also he says they have seen the beast. He describes it and summarizes everything. Then he comlains aboutRalph, that Ralph should not be chief anymore, because he was scared when they looked for the beast.

this is the reason why the group of the boys splits up. Some guys go with Jack the others stay with Ralph. Jack goes hunting with his group. After this they go and steal fire, which Ralph’s group has made on the beach. They have made the fire there because they could not do it on the top of the mountain anymore. There lives the “beast”.

From this fire Jack and the two others steal some fire for roasting their pig which they have caught. After stealing some fire Jack invites some of the people from Ralph’s group to join their group and eat the pig with them. So he wants to win more people.

All in all this part of Lord of the flies was interesting too. But some things get really boring. For example when the guys start looking for the beast. Everything is described in details. That makes the chapter longer and longer, and you gets excited where the beast is. You really want to know where it is, but the author delays the “out coming”. And that seemed boring, to me.

But the story gets interesting again when the group splits up and Jack and the guys come to get some fire. That was one of the last actions I read. Now I am very excited what happens to all of them and how they will be to each other.

All in all I think that the author could have shorten this part of the story a bit. So it would not get boring. The reader would not stop to read only because he has not described everything in detail. It seems to me if William Golding has done this only because he needs to fill his pages.

The novel “Lord of the Flies” is a book about some guys whose palne was shot down, and now they have to live on an island, all alone, with the hope of being rescued.

So far I read the story, I really like the action. At the beginning I was really confused about what has happen to the boys. I only knew that their plane has been shot down. I asked myself why son many boys were on this palne, without any adults and any girls, only boys. I was really confusing. Neither I didn’t know that they were rescued from a war. That was the reason why there were so less adults and no girls on the plane.

But sometimes the action is really exciting, then not so.

At the beginning, when the island is described and the boys also, it gets a bit boring. But when they make the fire and nearly burned down the island, it is exciting again.

It is good that the author took boys as the actors of this story. Because if he would have chosen girls, the story would not have happen like it is in the novel.

There would not be so much infighting. Between the boys there is everytime trouble with who is the best. Exspecially it is like this between Jack and Ralph. Also they would not goof on some guys. Guys have to play the hard ones. Guys do not have to be afraid. They have to be “cool”. If they are not they are goofed by the others. Like Piggy and even the little guys, who are goofed because they are afraid of a beast.

If this would have been girls they would not been goofed I think. Girls have an instict to protect little ones. Perhaps I am wrong. But I think the story would not be so interesting, if there were girls.

So all in all I think the author has think aboput why he has chosen boys and not girls. So his story gets special and exciting.
